A campaign can decline for different reasons: changing media costs, lower landing-page conversion, measurement problems or gaps in customer follow-up. The right action starts with identifying where performance changed.

Start with what happened

Compare the last week with the previous week, and the last month with the equivalent previous period. Look at volume and change while accounting for budget, weekdays and recent adjustments. A percentage on its own can exaggerate a small difference.

In Meta Ads or Google Ads, a number needs to be read alongside the campaign’s objective. Clicks, leads and sales represent different stages.

Separate observations from hypotheses

Observation: the cost per lead increased. Hypothesis: the page may be converting less effectively. One does not prove the other. Check whether the cost per click changed, whether measurement works and whether lead quality is holding up.

A hypothesis guides the investigation. It is not yet a conclusion.

Use AI to organize the reasoning

AI can help compare periods, list inconsistencies and document hypotheses. This requires accurate data, account context and review. It does not replace measurement validation or an understanding of the business.

  • Record the evidence supporting the diagnosis.
  • Define a change that is proportionate to the problem.
  • Agree on how and when the effect will be evaluated.
  • Confirm approval before changing campaigns or budgets.

The result is a decision that can be explained and revisited. If the hypothesis does not hold up, the record helps guide the next investigation.
